DOC Savannah Presents Pier Kids and The Neutral Ground

This October and November, DOC Savannah is pleased to screen POV Films: Pier Kids and The Neutral Ground as part of POV Our America: “Documentaries in Dialogue” through a series of screenings in both Savannah and Statesboro Georgia.

This event is a collaboration with POV, the award-winning independent non-fiction film series on PBS www.pbs.org/pov and made possible with support by the Southern Documentary Fund.

Upcoming Events for Pier Kids:

What does life look like for LGBTQ+ youth fifty years after Stonewall? Pier Kids, directed by Elegance Bratton and produced by Chester Algernal Gordon, transports audiences to New York City’s historic Christopher Street Pier where homeless queer Black youth navigate the streets to find safety and stability. The film shines a light on an underground community of Pier Kids, showcasing the intricate ways queer people of color utilize public space to build chosen family. This hopeful portrait exposes a side of New York City many often choose to ignore.

Upcoming Events for The Neutral Ground

In December 2015, the New Orleans City Council voted to remove four Confederate monuments from public grounds. A forceful group of critics protested the decision, and fearing retaliation, no crew would agree to remove the statues.
